Need to Run As Admin to burn Disc

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am now running the latest version of CDBurnerXP (4.5.1) but the only way I can make my DVD/RW available is to start the program as "Run as administrator". Previously this did not occur (sorry, don't know the previous version). I am running on Windows 7 x64. According to the FAQ there is supposed to be an install option: "During setup you can enable the option to allow non-admin users to burn CDs", but this option never appears. I have tried uninstalling & re-installing but no change.

After setup, there should be a driver StarOpen.sys in C:\Windows\System32\drivers that allows device access. Has this file been installed correctly?

Also, does it make a difference whether you use the x64 or 32 bit version of CDBurnerXP?

I am using the latest free version of CDBurner XP. My question is : is it possible to burn an MP3 disc according to my play list using this programme?

Thanks

Hello. I have same problem. Only admin see drives, on normal user "No compatible drives". I tried all version - minimal, 32 bit, 63 bit, portable. Windows 10 pro. On admin account I have to do "run as admin" anyway. I dont see anywhere "StarOpen.sys". Version 4.5.8.7041

Hi,

I've seen the same problem if I use the MSI installer, but not if I use the .exe? (Talking about 4.5.8 7042 here). I'd prefer to use the MSI but hadn't realised it broke some of the functionality. I guess I can use the .exe if that's the only way of getting a working installation?

Thanks

Martin

Cancel that. I was able to burn without admin rights once, but I haven't been able to reproduce the behaviour on subsequent installations. I don't see the StarOpen.sys file either.
