674 unanswered posts

Recommended Posts

I think that the number of unanswered posts (674) in this forum is; when taken into account the number of members on this forum, certainly one of the highest I've seen yet.

Also let's not forget that you can triple that amount since a stupid reply to a thread starter like "and your mother too..." is considered as a worthy reply.....

I guess that the people who know more about this software and I'm 100% sure they have posted on this forum or are members.

A) don't have the time to reply or

B) don't give a f*ck that people have problems

C) a combination of both

As far as I'm concerned I'll try to start answering some posts, hoping some wise members will follow in my effort to change this forum from a non-active into an active one. I guess however that the vast mojority of people who have posted and never got a reply, have given up, and won't notice someone has replied to their problem.

I used to reply to almost every post some time ago, but I stopped doing that.

1. Because people keep asking the same questions again and again *without* reading the sticky topics/FAQs I carefully created

2. Because people ask questions I can't answer (especially burning errors)

3. Because my motivation to answer to questions decreased proportional to the development speed of CDBurnerXP

4. Because I "invest" my time in other projects/activities (for example forum spam deletion)

So I don't mind if other forum members are a little more active :)

Even the best would indeed give up after while

2. Because people ask questions I can't answer (especially burning errors)

That's only normal, but I would reply, I mean if I had the time.

You mean extremely low development speed ?

4. Because I "invest" my time in other projects/activities (for example forum spam deletion)

Can't spam be partly avoided by making it a "only members" forum and prohibiting "Guests" ?

I suppose so....

Yep.

I don't like to lock users out who do not register. Even if I did, spambots can auto-register new users and use them to post spam. phpBB has some sort of CAPTCHA (which I can't get to work), but it is too weak anyway. I added quite a lot of custom spam protection methods (like a limit of URLs in a post) but it isn't enough to prevent spam entirely.
