Replace corrupt file in iso file before burning?

Recommended Posts

I have a Windows XP CD where one of the files in the i386 folder, (DRIVER.CAB,) has an error.

I have done some testing and it seems that I can use the DRIVER.CAB file from another CD even if it is not of the same size (larger). I have copied all the files to another CD so I still can install, but I have not been able to create a bootable CD.

Therefore, instalaltion is possible only on an already booted computer.

I can read the corrupted CD with a burner program, but is there any method I could use to replace the DRIVER.CAB before burning a new, bootable CD?

Would using a memory stick instead of a CD make it possible to circumvent the problem?
