Why are my names shortened?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I am using 3.0.116 on w2k-p, sp4.

I have a directory on my hard drive that I constantly burn to a CD-R. As of yesterday,

CDBXPP is cap'ing my directoy names and shortening them to 8 & 3. It is doing the

same thing with my file names, except is is getting a little more fancy. E.g.:

firewall.external.rules ==> FIREWALL.RUL

firewall.rules ==> FIREWALL.1.RUL

Does anyone know what is going on and how to fix it?

Many thanks,.

Oh, and it only happens on this particular directory I use to cut that particular disk.

The other two directories I use to cut two other disks with come out okay.

It must be something it does not like about that directory.

Never did figure out how to set Joilet vs ISO.

Found it. If it was any easier, it would have it me on the head! Thank you.

On the original topic, it is in "Joilet". Any other ideas why this happening?

Does CDBXPP shorten things automatically when it finds a name it does not like?

Is this a bug?

No, CDBXPP is supposed to cut everything which does not fit for the selected file system. The next version fixes a few bugs regarding those truncations as far as I know, but it will, of course, continue to cut filenames if they are too long.

It seems to be cutting and capitalizing all the names. Not just excessively long ones.

Is this the bug you were speaking of? And, is there a work around?

Many thanks,

Captitalising is for ISO Level 1, I don't think that's a bug.

ISO Level 1

File names are restricted to 8 characters with a 3 character extension, upper case letters, numbers and underscore; maximum depth of directories is 8.

Is the bug already know? If not, is there some data I can collect that will assist

in its solution?

And, any idea when the next edition is scheduled?

Is the bug already know?

Well, if it is fixed, who cares? :-P

But yes, it is known.

And, any idea when the next edition is scheduled?

Next month first public beta I think. No promise though.
