Compatibility with external CD/DVD duplicator (Produplicator M-Disc or other)

Recommended Posts

Can anyone provide information about using CDBurnerXP with an external CD/DVD duplicator such as the M-Disc duplicator from Produplicator? I am contemplating buying such a duplicator. Such usage is apparently supported, but I haven't found enough information yet to know how far I can trust it. For the Produplicator M-Disc duplicator the documentation is that you need to purchase with the  "smart USB" option and with a hard-drive option on the duplicator itself. No special software is required. There is no specific statement about CDBurnerXP (my favorite CD burning software by far).

CDBurnerXP requires a burning device to be present so I guess one more targeted way to ask the question would be "Will CDBurnerXP see an external disc duplicator connected over a USB cable?" but really I'm looking for whatever anyone can tell me about if I can expect the configuration I've described to work and if so how (and, how easy).

I'm using 4.5.4 of CDBurnerXP on a Windows 7 Starter machine but I have other machines I could use (e.g. just about any Windows OS or Linux could be supplied from my end). I'm interested in compatibility with the 5 M-Disc duplicator from Produplicator but would be interested to know about other configurations that might (or might not) work as well.

Thanks!

I can't tell you unfortunately. The deciding factor is if the duplicator will be seen as a single drive when connected per USB or as multiple drives. CDBurnerXP does not support burning to multiple drives at this point, so it will only work if the duplicator appears as single drive and then controls all devices internally at the same time. On the one hand I believe this to be unlikely (never heard of such a functionality), on the other hand I don't think it's feasible to send data to multiple drives through a single USB cable either. Guess you should ask the manufacturer.
