Copy Files from one Disc to another

Recommended Posts

Maybe I'm just to dump but I have a problem:

I try to copy some Files from from my HD and one CD to another multisession CD containing already some data I want to keep.

But every time I repace one disc with the other My compialtion is reset and I either loose the data from one of the discs.

The "obvious" workaround to write an ISO file and than burning this to a 3rd CD isn't working. I then can't access the files which were in the imported session from the second Disc. I can see them in windows explorer, but somehow only the directory entries made it to the thrid disc. When Itry to open one of the Files I get an error.

When I look at the ISO, I can tell by the file size that there is something wrong. The file is way to small zur its intended content.

Does anyone knowns how to do this without copying the File from the first CD to HD and than adding them from there to the second?

Thanks

What I tried so far:

(CDE burner opend at start)

1 (also preps for trial 2 and 3) Copy some Fiels from CD1 and HD to empty CD2

  • * Insert CD1 , select ignore session from the popup
    * Add some files from CD1 and HD to compilation
    * Insert CD2 (enpty here)
    * Burn (do not finalize) and write ISO

Result: Burning OK, ISO write OK

2 Copy more files from CD1 to CD2 Trial1

  • * Insert CD1, select ignore session (I only want to add some files)
    * add some files to compilation
    * replace CD1 with CD2 ,select import session

Result: Compilation is reset after CD change. Files added from CD1 are lost. If I try to reinsert the CD1 the imported session from CD2 is lost.

ISO useless

3 Copy more files from CD1 to CD2 Trial2

Same as 2. but import session from CD2 via Menue Medium/import session before inserting CD1

Reinsert CD2 for burning and/or ISO write

Result: same as for 2.

I don't think I try to do something unusual task for CD/DVD writing and that CDBurnerXP isn't supporting this. The bug is probably about 30cm in front of my TFT (between my ears ;-)). So please tell me how this can be done.

Thanks,

You can do that. Insert CD1, import first session, add files from CD2 (drag and drop), burn. However, the files will be cached on disc anyway, because it is not safe to read the data only from a disc (might be too slow during burning process).

Maybe I'm to dump (happens sometimes when hardware engineers try to use software ;-)). But that is exactly what I tried before and didn't work:

...

3 Copy more files from CD1 to CD2 Trial2

Same as 2. but import session from CD2 via Menue Medium/import session before inserting CD1

Reinsert CD2 for burning and/or ISO write

...

Problem is that the compilation is reset as soon as I open the drive tray to change the disc.

How about a step by step Howto?
