CD? Burner XP? - How about a new, matching name?

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I really like this neat lil prog. But the name doesn't fit anymore, since Vista and DVDs are out. How about a new matching name? I would suggest to drop the CD and the XP. Maybe just "Burner" or "Burner!" or "burnerrr!"? What do you guys think?

Nope. Name changes cause more troubles than it's worth it.

I agree with you Flo, name changes always create troubles... but think about that ;)

There are no problems for people already know CDBurnerXP... the problem is for new users :(

We are loosing several potential new users (maybe donors) just because they don't know the tool and when they saw it on the web (for example on software websites or searching for a free Nero alternatives on Google), they don't download and try it at all because, looking at its name, they think it's compatible with Windows XP only and doesn't support DVD recording :(

That's my point :)

I just think that a good app deserves an attractive name, so that the user will remember it.

And a short name which describes the features is just perfect. I can't force you(I actually don't know who the devs are) to change it, just a suggestion

I'll second that, don't really see why a change of name would cause more problem?

As per what Midi said, the program can already perform way beyond CDand how about future support for HD-DVD and Blu-Ray. Are you still gonna call it CD??? As for the XP part, it's will actually give people a impression the the program works only with Windows XP.

Perhaps you can start a poll to see who is with / against the idea of a name change which would be more appropriate.

Believe it or not, many people call all kinds of discs still "CD" as generic term for all round plates they can insert into their PC ;)

I don't think that we should consider a new name at the moment, if at all for version 5 or something...but if you have nice suggestions, I won't mind listening.
