First have a look at helpfule how to convert your video to the right format. Then you can try to burn it as standard Data-Disc, your DVD player should be able to handle that. If not, do it as described in VCD-Topic in Feature Request Forum.

If your home DVD player supports playing .avi files (like e.g. DVD players with DivX, Xvid and etc. support), you can burn your file directly to the DVD medium as DVD data disc. If there is no support for playing .avi files on your home DVD player, you need convert the .avi file to mpeg 2 or 1 format and author the files for burning it as DVD movie disc or as video disc (VCD, SVCD) as Flo had written.

Another possibility is to use Microsoft X-box with mod-chip and you will be able to play DVDs and .avi and other formats (.mp3, .waw, audio CD, etc.) with only one apparatus and will not have such a problems. In my opinion is X-box with mod-chip very good and low-cost home entertainment apparatus.

Nice day
