[C] Audio File is DRM protected and cannot be burned to disc

Recommended Posts

CDBurnerXP 4.3.9.2783 64-bit on Win7 Pro SP1 64-bit

I'm getting the error, "The audio file is DRM protected and cannot be burned to disc." when trying to open, drag-drop, etc. a CUE file from a BIN/CUE fileset so I can burn an Audio CD.

The audio is my own work, created in Reaper (audio processing software). I used Reaper to create the BIN/CUE files. I've looked in around Reaper for options to add DRM protection but haven't found anything.

Other programs such as UltraISO can open the BIN/CUE set and burn a CD. What can I do to troubleshoot this issue in CDBurnerXP?

Kind regards,

Suddenly, out of the blue, I too am getting DRM protected messages for files that I've had for years (and copied many times). This was after an update that I did on 1/17/14. Can't burn any of my thousands of files; help would be appreciated.

I too can no longer burn audio files that I have created - these are not DRM protected files - these are my own files/recordings. I updated to the latest version 4.5.2.4478 within the last week and now files that I could previously burn are being flagged as DRM protected and CDBXP will not allow burning to audio CD.

Help!

In the meantime I still had a previous version installer file on my system so I have removed 4.5.2.4478 and re-installed 4.5.1.3868. Problem resolved for now.

I will not upgrade to newer version until I know this problem is fixed.

I am not aware of any changes that would cause this issue. However, I can't fix this potential problem if no one bothers to send me a sample file. Just waiting for a fix is not going to accomplish anything ;)

I just hit this problem trying to open a CUE file that worked on 24 dec. Dragging it, or using 'import from cue sheet' gives the DRM message. It seems I had upgraded (since xmas) to the same level 4.5.2.4478 that others above are seeing the problem on.

Now I've gone back to 4.5.0.3717 (happens to be older than the one shark2k2 reverted to) and the same CUE file works ok, meaning I can drag it to the bottom audio window and it expands into the list of tracks (thus I think also demonstrating the wav files actually all exist still). Didn't actually want to cut the CDR now.

The CUE file is this, has lots of long path+filenames, all WAVE, with PREGAP, INDEX, and (non-real for now) ISRCs:

"The CUE sheet alone can't be the issue." - I disagree, it is quite possible for a newer version of a piece of software to introduce, for instance, a shorter limit on the filenames it supports - I'm not saying the CUE sheets alone ARE the cause, just that they COULD be, which means the quoted statement is untrue.

Being practical, each of the wav files is about 30Mb so 20 of those is a bit much to upload, and I'm fairly sure the problem would happen with just one or 2 or them, and with much smaller files, so I might try that experiemtn in order to be able to provide a smaller CUE & matching files to demo the problem. I say 'might' because it means bothering to reinstalling a version that I know won't work!

In the meantime, because at the moment I still suspect it's to do with the length of the filenames (or rather, the combined length of filename plus filepath, having seen a similar problem with cooledit) I have a question for others with the problem:

"Does anyone see the problem when using much shorter file names? If you have a failing CUE, how similar to the one above is it, does it have any common peculiarities?"

Ok, think I've got it now - nothing to do with the files or even the CUE file really - it's to do with whether you've just started the program and are dragging  one or more CUE files for the first time into the audio area (works) - if you then Close the audio selection (and say No to saving), then choose New and choose type Audio again, then try to drag any CUE file to the audio area, it says "The audio file is DRM protected and cannot be burned to disc" (that all, you can't see which wav file it was complaining about, it seems to be complaining about the whole cue file, or the process of doing it a second time I suppose).

Please see if you can recreate this - it doesn't seem to matter what CUE & files you use provided they exist and are reasonably valid. It just fails if you abandon your first CUE selection and start again without coming completley out of the program.

Thanks

"The CUE sheet alone can't be the issue." - I disagree,

I said that because I did some tests with your cue sheets and could neither find errors nor potential errors. Scientifically speaking, this statement would indeed be incorrect though.

I could reproduce the problem with the steps you mentioned though...a silly bug as it seems that hasn't been noticed for quite a few years now ;) Will fix it for the next release.

(Then again my initial statement proved to be correct after all.)

OK, thanks that'll be great! Not sure it should have been wrong for so long ('quite a few years') though, since I found it seemed ok in 4.5.0.3717 (with installer file modification date 28/12/2012 18:51 [i downloaded 14/2/2014]) and someone above said a newer v, 4.5.1.3868 was ok too. Maybe it was wrong-&-not-noticed for a year or so (or the site I downloaded my 4.5.0 from had altered the mod date). Or there again, maybe it was (coded) wrong for years but the effect didn't manifest itself til more recently. Anyway, thanks for pursuing the 'abandon & redrag' lead, and yes, even logically/scientifically, your statement has now become true (since knowing what the bug is, you know it can't be caused by [some property of the] cue alone :)
