Error Flushing Device Cache Error & Locked Tray

Recommended Posts

I have a new computer with a freshly installed copy of Win XP Pro. When I finally installed CDBurner I was unable to burn any disc......CD, DVD+R, DVD-R, or DVD+RW. The error was always the same and occurred at the same place in the burning process, no matter whether I was burning 50MG of data, or 3GB. It was always at the end and the message was "Error flushing device cache while closing track. No additional information" (Attached Screenshot). As you can see, I tried different media formats, and I have also tried a sampling of several brands of media. Additionally, after every burn attempt, my tray was locked and required a boot to free it (I saw a similar problem reported previously, but I think the last response posted was "Mine works" or something like that...anyway there seemed to be no resolution). I have 2 Samsung SH-S203N Drives with firmware SB02 installed. I have no trouble reading media, nor did I have any problems with my backup program creating a DVD backup.

The error occurs on both of the drives.

After a lot of experimenting (coasters), I went back to my original install image which was just after the point I activated Win XP. The only thing I additionally installed, was Dot Net Framework 3.5 and CDBurner XP 4.2.3.1062. So there was no possibility of conflicts from other software. I tried burning a cd and received the error. I then tried burning some songs with WMP. That worked. I tried burning the same songs with CDBurner and received the error message again. I then downloaded a program called Deepburner. I selected a group of files and successfully burned them (and ejected the disc). I tried the same files with CDBurner, but the burn failed (and the tray was locked). I tried Deepburner again, and was successful. I ended up making 5 additional burns with Deepburner without problems.

I have tried to turn on the error logging, but can't seem to find where the output goes.

I have contacted Samsung. They verified I have the current firmware.

An Update.....Just as I was preparing to send this, I was able to burn once successfully with CDBurner, But they tray was locked and the disc did not (and would not) eject. I tried 3 more times to burn with CDBurner, but they all failed. I immediately retried Deepburner, and was successful.

I Had CDBurner on my old computer (Older Release) and never had a problem.

Can Anyone Help?

Allan

He are the errors from the log. It also shows the failed eject of the drive.

I have also attached the full log.

Hi all,

I experience the same problem, at the end of burning an ISO to a CD-RW or DVD-RW the error message (devUnknownError) Error flushing device cache while closing track. Unknown Error. - 0x0000F6.

I have 2 DVD writers in my PC, a Plextor PX-712A and a Optiarc AD-7170S with the latest firmware. Both drives produce the same error in CDBurnerXP.

The PC is running Win XP Pro SP3 up to the latest updates.

Grz,

Edu

Also have such error. I have NEC Optiarc 7203S drive and tried burning DVD+RW's with both last official firmware 1.06 from Sony-NEC and with Diggy's and Lee's RPC1 firmware 1.Z3. Burning resulted with error during writing lead-out.

Hi all,

I was looking for a simple free CD burning program and CDBurnerXP looks really good to me. Unfortunately I have the same problem (don't know the exact error code 0x... anymore) with the "Error Flushing Device Cache" at the end of burning a CD.

My system:

XP SP3

LG GH22LS30 SATA DVD/CD burner

It would be really nice to see, if you devs can reproduce the issue and if we can be hopeful to have a fixed version soon.

All the best

Axel

PS: Being a developer myself, I would be glad to help out testing. So if you have any debug versions that I shall run for extended log output, just go ahead.

That ETA does not depend on me. But I send them an email just now, maybe they can do something other than pushing their upcoming release.
Thanks, Flo. Who does this application belong to? And will the upcoming release address this issue or is that part of the unknown?

I'm afraid I also have to report the same error. I am using a brand new Lite-On BD DH4B1S burner on a machine I just built (nForce 780i SLI motherboard with Core Quad CPU). It also did the same thing with another motherboard I have been working with. The burner seems to work fine with the "CyberLink" Burning software that it came with (though I think it's bloatware and I love CDBurnerXP).

log file attached...

hi.

i found solution for me, maybe it'll work for you, guys.

my computer, important devices:

- motherboard: old Abit AN8 Ultra, supports AMD's CPU (chipset: NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra),

- dvdburner: Samsung SH-S203P.

CDBurnerXP was working fine, but i had to reinstall Windows XP once. after reinstalling i got "(...) error flushing write cache" information. i tested few CDBurnerXP's lower versions - the same.

i was thinking what's changed after reinstalling... and i got answer.

1. XP with working CDBurnerXP - motherboard's drivers taken from original CD, old drivers

2. XP without working CDBurnerXP after reinstalling - motherboard's drivers taken from NVIDIA site, updated (15.23, September 12, 2008)

today i uninstalled motherboard's drivers (www), i installed once again (CD) and it works :)

well, if you have NVIDIA's chipset, you can try to use older drivers.

good luck :) i hope i could help :)

Same issue here. New PC with windows XP home and a Optiarc DVD RW AD 7200S.

Can't burn anything with CDBurnerXP.

It works fine with Nero, but I wanted to avoid this bloatware.

Tried DeepBurner, it works fine, even though interface is a bit lacking compared to CDBurnerXP.

So I'll stick with DeepBurner for now.

same problem here

using WinxP SP3, nVidia 15.23 drivers

Burner: LG GH22LS

first i got the error at the beginning (13MB written) with the Buffer activated, then I turned that option off and it failed at the end of the writing progress.

hi.

when i was using 15.23, CDBurnerXP was NOT working.

you can use older drivers from CD (if you have) or try to use other drivers from nVidia's www - i'm using nForce 570 Ultra AMD drivers (15.25, March 16, 2009) to my nVidia nForce 4 Ultra chipset. wrong drivers, but it works for me. My system works and CDBurnerXP works.

but you have to be careful. it works for me, i don't know what can happen in your case. for your safety, you should use original older drivers from original CD to your motherboard.

I took a look again at the nvidia website and it seems that i missed the driver update for my nforce 650i SLI.

I had the 15.23 driver installed, the current version is 15.26 for me.

Burned a small dvd-rw without problems, so I guess and hope the update solved the problem for me.

hints for the update:

I let the installer uninstall the old drivers, but the installer hang when it started automatically after the reboot.

Uninstalling the old driver myself, rebooting and installing the new ones worked fine.

I hope that helps for you as well :)

Hey Flo,

You promised in November of last year to look into this error. Have you had a chance to investigate? It seems to be quite common.

Thanks.

I looked at the changes others have made above and updated my nVidia drivers (nVidia GeForce/ION Driver Release 185.85 (May 6, 2009)) to see if it would help. I got my first clean burn using CDBurnerXP! So, if you're getting this "flushing" error, you might update your video drivers to see if it helps. I'm not sure why it did....
