Putting antivirus on bootable CD

Recommended Posts

I'd like to try cleaning up a virus-riddled laptop by putting some antivirus software on a bootable CD.

I was able to make a CD bootable with CDBurnerXP. When I boot with it on the sick laptop, I see all the old DOS commands (and the drive is A:) but I don't see the AVG antivirus program I put on the CD.

On the laptop, when I ask for a directory I see all the DOS commands but no AVG (it's a 51MB file, I shortened the name of the install file to AVG.exe). I think many of the DOS commands are executable files (like EDIT.COM for example) so I don't understand why I don't see AVG.exe along with those files.

If I look at the CD on my desktop machine (running CDBurnerXP) I see AVG.exe but none of the DOS files.

What am I doing wrong?
