What is Nero?

Recommended Posts

Nero is a commercial piece of software which allows you (if your computer has a suitable CD/DVD drive) to "burn", i.e. record, your own CDs or DVDs. You can buy recordable blank discs quite cheaply and then use them to preserve data, audio or video matter, for example to back up files on your computer's main disc in case it fails. CDs are probably a safer long-term bet than DVDs if you are relying on them as your safety net.

However you are likely to need various other bits of software if you intend to try anything fancy with audio or video content.

CDBurnerXP is a good, free alternative to Nero - so you won't get badgered to keep paying out for (probably unnecessary) upgrades. If you want to tidy up old audio recordings and get them onto CDs or MP3 players I can recommend the free Audacity program (and the iMic device to connect your hi-fi to the computer).

If you don't want to do any of these things then Nero is valueless to you. Maybe you could sell it on eBay? (Don't forget to say what version it is)
