MSI, Group Policy, "Add Operation Failed"

Recommended Posts

Attempting to use the MSI provided on the CD Burner Website to Publish CDBurnerXP and perhaps assign in the future (would be good to update it every once in a while).

Problem is, I've tried a couple of MSIs starting with the latest and working back, every MSI gives the following message:

Add operation failed. Unable to extract deployment information from the package. Run validation on the package to ensure that the package is correct.

Any ideas? No issues with any other MSI so far.

Are you sure you have the correct permissions? Did you start the Group Policy management console with elevated privilges? Does this user account have write permission to the group policy you like to modify? Does this user account have read permissions on the file share? Did you try to apply any transforms? (if so, please try without any transform)

Are there any errors in the Windows event logs? Is there another installation in progress, maybe a Windows update in the background? Once I also had a problem adding a software package because another package was still processed.

Additionally, when you want to deploy it as a machine policy, make sure that a) the user account running the group policy management console and b ) the computer account installing the package have read permissions on the file share.
