wardner Report Share Posted January 29, 2013 (Software version: 4.5.0.3717) Hello! I've just bought this usb Blu Ray writer, and I've tried to burn a Sony BD-R (high quality media, with mediacode NN3, certified 6x). Unfortunately, with my Win7 x64 I was no able to have my BD-R burned, because of a nasty error: hresult: 0x80040255 The popup window talks about not supported / low quality media... but I don't believe it's the case, since such media are recommended in the Samsung user manual. I've also tried to burn my BD-R with the (crappy) software included in the Samsung package, buth different error message popped up... as a last resort, I've also tried the Windows built-in burner, but Explorer crashed. Good news are that with another pc running Win Xp (x64) I was able to perform the burning with cdburnerxp without errors, although only 2x writing speed was allowed... so probably there's some low-level incompatiliby going on in my system with Win7. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

floele Report Share Posted January 29, 2013 Since other applications fail as well, I believe it either is a hardware defect or a problem with actually accessing the drive. If you have any CD emulations apps or antivirus, you should try to disable them tempoarily. Also worth would be trying to burn a disc using the SPTD interface.
wardner Author Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 HAPPY!!!!! Thank you so much for the SPTD interface tip... it works, although at 2x speed (higher speeds supported by both the writer and the media still not selectable) Let me know if I can help you in fixing the wrong speed bug
floele Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 The drive my just not report a higher speed...you can select a custom higher one, but it's doubtful that it works.
wardner Author Report Share Posted February 5, 2013 I've tried selecting an "unsupported" speed... but no way: writing is forced at 2x
wardner Author Report Share Posted March 4, 2013 After upgrading to 4.5.1.3868 the correct burning speed is shown and everything is fine. Thank you

Brady Report Share Posted March 19, 2016 I had the same problem and i wasted 3 BD. Then i tried with DVD RE and... nothing. I was almost getting mad at it when i tried the device on a notebook and it worked. So i found out that the problem was the USB port! I was using a hub. As i connected the SE-506 directly into the back-panel-USB-socket it worked like a champ! (I tried the USB front panel socket and it didnìt work). P.S. i rescued 1 of the 3 BD: it was blank and writable yet
floele Report Share Posted March 26, 2016 Actually a god tip. Indeed, USB ports with insufficient power can easily be an issue, I added a note about this to the troubleshooting page.
