[C] DVD Spanning - wrong speed on subsequent disks + other

Recommended Posts

cdbxp_setup_4.5.2.4291_minimal.exe

when spanning DVDs, the first disk in the set burns at correct speed (DVD 16X),
but all subsequent disks revert to speed CD 48X.

also the burn dialog provides a drop down to show/change disc number, but
it is only 1 char wide, so discs 10-19 all show a "1", 20-29 as "2". etc.

also, clicking abort posts the "aborting, please wait" msg, but it takes FOREVER.

drive is LITE-ON 20A1P KL0P, which is on the approved list.

I've just seen a variant of this behaviour, disk spanning to a blu-ray drive. The first disk burned at "6x", as selected, the second at "Maximum", and the remainder at a reported "52x", which seems unlikely for a blu-ray disk!

18:43:22    Burn process started at 6x (26,970 KB/s)
18:59:36    Closing disc
18:59:54    Verifying of files started (632 files to compare)
19:11:13    Burning process successfully completed at speed 6x (26,970 KB/s)
19:19:58    Burn process started at Maximum
19:38:25    Closing disc
19:38:42    Verifying of files started (743 files to compare)
19:50:02    Burning process successfully completed at speed Maximum
19:50:55    Burn process started at 52x (22,160 KB/s)
20:14:42    Closing disc
20:15:00    Verifying of files started (520 files to compare)
20:26:20    Burning process successfully completed at speed 52x (22,160 KB/s)
20:27:10    Burn process started at 52x (22,160 KB/s)
20:50:55    Closing disc
20:51:13    Verifying of files started (281 files to compare)
21:02:43    Burning process successfully completed at speed 52x (22,160 KB/s)
21:06:12    Burn process started at 52x (22,160 KB/s)
21:16:53    Closing disc
21:17:10    Verifying of files started (136 files to compare)
21:23:42    Burning process successfully completed at speed 52x (22,160 KB/s)

And now perhaps another variant.

I've just been burning several copies of an audio CD. The first copy always seems to burn properly with my selected speed of 16x. Sometimes, though, a subsequent CD (not necessarily the second) will burn at 4x instead. At the end of that 4x burn I then get a message to the effect that "your CD drive can't do gapless and/or disk-at-once burning, please choose different options" (sorry, I didn't record the precise wording).

I *think* that this reset to 4x & subsequent error message seems more likely to happen if I wait a few minutes before putting the next blank CD in the drive, but I'm not certain.

Yes, there is a speed selection problem, but I don't know how to tacke it yet since I can't realyl reproduce the problem. The issue occurs because the speed selection is refreshed when the disc changes (eject / insert) and it apparently does not load the previously selected speed in all cases.

The only suggestion I have for reproducing it is, after a disc has burned, and it's been ejected, let things sit like that (i.e. with the drive drawer open) for a few minutes before changing the disc and attempting to continue. I *think* that makes the problem more likely to occur.

Cheers,

John

Hello
I just wanted to say that I am struggling with this same bug. On both windows 7 and 8.1 with version 4.5.2.4478 (latest at this time).

I am writing a bunch of DVDs in spanning mode and every single time, after the first dvd, it resets to the maximum CD speed (48x). I have to cancel when it waits for a new disc, close the burning window, do the whole dvd spanning dialog box again, choose the dvd I was on next and burn, after every dvd.
If I just cancel the window waiting for a new dvd, insert the new one, wait for it to spin up, the speed automatically resets to dvd full speed(16x), so at least it's a bit faster.
hope this helps

I have a Lite-On writer.
